Trauma Enhanced Practice

Trauma Enhanced Practice

Trauma standards recognise that additional skills are required for those involved in the development of person-centred strategies and plans in social care, education and health settings. A deeper understanding of trauma enables practitioners to apply a trauma informed lens when working with individuals whose relationships and behaviours may be shaped by adverse experiences as children and/or adults.

The TAG Trauma Enhanced Practice Programme provides this understanding, and crucially a model and skills for working with an individual to identify practical strategies that will help build trust, relationships and resilience.

TAG strategies will compliment and enhance your current organisational practice and approach, whether this involves co-creation of education support/learning plans, personal recovery plans or positive behaviour support (PBS) plans.

We also recognise the key challenges people experience at different ages and have created specific programme content for those supporting children, supporting young people, adults, and older adults.

Practitioners learn how to use the TAG Trauma Calm–Connect–Communicate Model which provides a practical framework for supporting individuals and guiding and coaching the teams that support them day to day.

If you would value access to person centred planning tools for trauma screening and recovery planning, including our strategies toolkits – please see the TAG Trauma Enhanced Practitioner Programme.

Participants on this programme will:

  • Apply a trauma informed lens in working with individuals on their person-centred plans and strategies
  • Explore connections between trauma, behaviour and personal identity, plus the overlap between trauma responses, mental health and neurodivergence
  • Develop trauma enhanced interpretations of behaviours of concern, helping to reduce restrictive practices and improve outcomes
  • Learn practical strategies for supporting emotional regulation and building safety through sensory informed practice
  • Consider attachment styles and trauma’s impact on relational development
  • Apply the Calm, Connect, Communicate Model to support relational safety, using trauma informed presence and connection
  • Recognise shame sensitive practice and how to reduce risks of re-traumatisation
